Take the driver’s seat – the fourth stage of the Grand Tour is a real treat for lovers of geology, feathers and art! We set off from Malpartida de Plasencia, the gateway to the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve and National Park. Here, the birdwatching It’s not just a hobby, it’s a religion; if you don’t spot a griffon vulture or a black vulture, it means you’re still in bed.
We fill up the car and set off for Toril, Casatejada and Saucedilla, driving through a Mediterranean forest of holm oaks and cork oaks. If you’d like to find out more about this ecosystem, you should stop off at the visitor centre Monfragüe Archway (Toril) and at the Arrocampo Bird Park. You’ll be totally Monfragüised.
We take a closer look at Romangordo, where the trompe-l'oeil The street art will make you wonder whether that door is real or just the canvas of a very witty artist. Here, the façades tell stories of life under the gaze of Armorican quartzite.
We’re carrying on with the stage. It never stops. This time, along a scenic route brutal, which plunges us straight into the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark.
Get ready for a journey through time: from ichnofossils (footprints of organisms from 450 million years ago) to the first settlers. If you want to feel like the king of the world, climb aboard the Cabañas Castle; the views of the Appalachian landscape are so breathtaking that you won’t want to get off. And in Berzocana, the Cancho de la Sábana awaits you with its cave paintings; some very stylish Neolithic graffiti. Meanwhile, in Cañamero, the Chiquita Cave It will make you imagine ancient civilisations where TikTok hadn’t yet arrived.
Fancy a bit of action? Get pedalling on a mountain bike or go cycle touring, or burn some rubber on a hike through a Nature Trail or the Greenway, and if you come in November, enjoy the geological spectacle of Geodisea or the chords of Naturarte.
The grand finale is Guadalupe, historic site and a site of cultural interest. Its monastery, a World Heritage Site, is the spiritual beacon where the Hispanic Heritage, surrounded by geological sites and unique trees that seem to form a land of plenty.
