If you think a hiking trail is just a parade of colourful leggings and aluminium walking sticks, then you haven’t felt the breath of history in the the English route.

The route invites you to go for a walk 16 kilometres which correspond to the the final stretch where, in 1812, British troops gave Napoleon’s forces a terrible fright at Lugar Nuevo. And it’s not just about walking, it’s a dramatised historical re-enactment which will leave your retinas trembling with excitement.

After the battle, go and grab some trompe-l'oeil (mural art that tricks the eye) dotted around the town’s streets, or you can visit the Interpretation Centre for the English Route, a modern take that plunges you right into the Anglo-French fray without a single cannonball landing on you.
