Still taking in the glory of the Guadalupe Monastery? Well, get ready, because the fifth stage of the Grand Tour through the Villuercas Ibores Jara Geopark is a circular journey back and forth to the earth’s telluric force. We set off from this historic site, a site of cultural interest and a World Heritage Site, where the monastery reigns supreme, as we search for the secrets that the first settlers carved into the rock.

We set off along the scenic route towards Castañar de Ibor. Here, the jewel in the crown awaits you: its cave. It’s a natural monument where aragonite and speleothems form a veritable mineral forest of white flowers that will leave you speechless. On the way to Villar del Pedroso, the past comes to life. Here, the Vettones left us their boars made of stone, a way of paying tribute to their most revered animals. Fancy a bit more action? Go for a ride on a mountain bike, try cycle touring, or burn some calories hiking along a nature trail or at one of the geosites in the Armorican quartzite. You’ll find fossils galore (footprints dating back 450 million years) and the odd unusual tree, such as the Trucha Lorera or the Carrascalejo juniper, which will make you feel small.

To top it all off? Do birdwatching high, marvel at the street art on the rural walls or give in to the space tourism under clear skies. And when you return to Guadalupe, if it is 12 October, enjoy it with the Hispanic Heritage and its thousands of horsemen.
