The Tiétar sluice gate is, alongside the The Gypsy’s Leap, the most iconic viewpoint in Monfragüe National Park and the UNESCO Territories as a whole. The fact is that few places in the world offer such frequent opportunities to observe the most sought-after bird of prey: the Iberian imperial eagle.

If that were the only reason, you’d already have a good reason to visit, but no; there’s much more to it than that. Because as well as the interesting disharmonic folds of the quartzite from which it is formed – a real treat for geotourism enthusiasts – the most common sight here is griffon vultures and black vultures, Egyptian vultures, black storks, eagle owls, blue rock thrushes, rock buntings, crag martins… and as if that weren’t enough, from this spot it’s easy to follow the exploits of the otters. A really fun viewpoint.
