It was the largest Jewish quarter in the province And, to be honest, it’s one of those gems that takes you on a real journey through time without the need for cables or flux capacitors.

The atmosphere here is authentic and very «Rayano», reminiscent of the neighbouring Castelo de Vide. A labyrinthine neighbourhood of nineteen medieval streets which still feature no fewer than 266 exterior doorways, the old synagogue and the imposing church of Rocamador, which blends into the castle-fortress with astonishing naturalness.

To do things properly, there is a self-guided tour which will show you the neighbourhood as it deserves to be seen; all you have to do is follow the directional and information signs from the town hall. And remember, The neighbourhood has been designated a historic conservation area.
