The statue of Cristo de la Victoria was carved in Madrid in 1631 by the sculptor Domingo de Rioja and by commissioned by Francisca de Oviedo y Palacios.

According to tradition, he had already performed miracles whilst in Madrid, which made it difficult for the Blessed Woman to bring it to Serradilla, as she had intended, given the interest the image aroused at court, to the extent that King Philip IV himself was said to be responsible for its retention.

When she finally managed it, having been forced to stop off in Plasencia once again, the same thing happened all over again, for the Christ began performing miracles left, right and centre, and the bishop ordered that he be kept in the church of San Martín; It was not until 1641 that the statue finally reached Serradilla.

Subsequently, the Monastery of the Holy Christ of Victory of the Recollect Augustinian Nuns, which, despite being closed to the public, can still be visited, as It is recognised as a Site of Cultural Interest in the ‘monument’ category.
