Hidden amongst the crags and rockroses are some of the most impressive rock art sites in the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve.

At first glance, they look like lines, dots or random marks, but if you look closely, you begin to make out suns, human figures, comb-like shapes or even something resembling an anchor. The people who made them did not live there: they came to hunt, perform rituals or mark something important.

They used pigments extracted from rocks in the surrounding area, and yet, seven thousand years later, they are still there, defying the passage of time and our curiosity.

The route, which starts at the Canchu del Lobu viewpoint, runs through six rock art sites: Pectisol, Ciempiés, Duro, Mina, and the rock shelters at La Pajarita and La Chimenea. Get ready to be completely blown away by every painting and let your imagination run wild; be wild.
