In Zarza la Mayor, we have Peñafiel Castle —or Racha Rachel, —for friends—, a fortress that seems to float above the Erjas Gorge, one of the main tributaries of the great River Tagus.

They say it was built by the Templars And, to be honest, you can really tell; it has that air of medieval mystery that makes you look twice, just in case knights in capes appear. The fact is, within its walls you can still sense the tension of the battles fought on the frontier.

The best thing is that, when you reach the top, the castle shows you why the climb was worth it. The view is so breathtaking that it leaves you with no excuses: the landscape, the river gorge, the birds of prey soaring overhead, the Raya… Everything down there, as if the castle were showing you its photo gallery.
