With 110 rock art sites filled with schematic paintings and engravings, Monfragüe is one of the jewels in the crown of the European cultural route ‘Routes of Prehistoric Rock Art’.

That is why Torrejón el Rubio has a centre dedicated to rock art, where the aim is to explore these four themed cabins which tell you how the first settlers in Monfragüe got on: the Bronze Age stelae, the the process of creating rock art o what the homes were like.

Forget about personal space: The whole family shared a single room in which to sleep, cook and store their belongings. The brush? Well, one made from animal bristles, plant fibres or feathers; no sprays or nonsense. Efficiency, sustainability and practicality in equal measure.
