With 110 stations filled with schematic paintings and engravings, this little spot is the jewel in the crown of the European cultural route ‘Paths of Prehistoric Rock Art’, the Champions League of prehistoric heritage, so to speak.

The fact is that the ancient inhabitants of this area painted what they saw, what they feared, what they celebrated… And if you go up to the rock shelter at the Monfragüe Castle The paintings are still there, shrouded in mystery, waiting for someone – by appointment, of course – to come and see them.
