The visitor centre at the Castañar de Ibor Cave It’s your ticket to an amazing underground world without having to worry about claustrophobia: models, virtual 3D rendering of the cave, display panels on speleothems and how water eroded the rocks to create this labyrinth, which It was discovered in 1969 by a farmer whilst he was sowing chickpeas and his mule disappeared into a sinkhole.

This This karst cave, designated a natural monument, dates from the late Ediacaran period (541 million years!), a veritable mineral forest featuring stalactites, stalagmites, lakes and an average temperature of 17 ºC with 95% humidity.

It is so fragile that only groups of five people, accompanied by a guide, are allowed in from May to September and subject to prior registration on a waiting list.
