If you’re into geology but don’t want to wear yourself out walking, these routes are absolutely brilliant. They explore part of the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve and National Park, with its fierce relief of parallel valleys and quartzite ridges carved millions of years ago.

The star of this tour is the Monfragüe Geological Trail: A 39 km drive along tarmac roads, starting from the tourist information office in Torrejón el Rubio. Nine stops with information panels that explain it all in simple terms: Armorican quartzites from Peña Falcón, creases in Portilla del Tiétar, fossils…

Then the The Albalat Bell Route, 45.7 km long, which starts at the Geocentro in Casas de Miravete: five stops at karst limestone formations, river terraces or the Makhada Al-Balat archaeological site.

And finally, the Minerals Route; 34 km from the ‘Footprint of Man’ Interpretation Centre, in Serradilla, so that you can discover the geological highlights of the Santa Catalina, La Cueva and Los Canchos mountain ranges, with stops at the Mirabel Castle, a kiastolite deposit and the Thebes mine. Rock, rock, rock.
