The monastery, which is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been a centre of spirituality and learning since its inception, and a visit there is one of those few things on which everyone agrees: you simply must go. The Catholic Monarchs, Columbus and Cervantes couldn’t have been wrong.
